A Newsletter on Marketing (and Life) #032

(NEW) Macro/Micro Podcast

"Am I satisfied with who I am?"

A close friend posed that question over bites of an overfilled burrito. I paused and reflected. Am I satisfied with who Jordan is?

Or are there things I ignore or overlook to be okay with who I am?

While we are all inherently worthy, I loved how this question made me analyze whether I'm okay with my current behavior, mindset, and position.

If not, let me do something to change it.

The opening last week was quite similar, as this theme continues to arise in my conversations and life. I hope the opening question can help you make progress.

Marketing Micro Essay šŸ’” S2E4: Macro/Micro Content

If you know me, you know Iā€™m obsessed with Macro/Micro Content.

Thatā€™s why I was excited to talk for 29:47 minutes on this topic. I could talk for hours about this concept.

Three Books / Three Quotes

ā€œThere doesnā€™t need to be a purpose guiding what we choose to make. When weā€™re making things we love, our mission is accomplished. Thereā€™s nothing at all to figure out.ā€ ā€“ Rick Rubin (The Creative Act: A Way of Being)

ā€œOne effective question to ask yourself before you act is, ā€˜Will this action make the future easier or harder?ā€™ā€ ā€“ Shane Parrish (Clear Thinking: Turning Ordinary Moments into Extraordinary Results)

ā€œWe are so used to disguising ourselves from others that we often end up by disguising ourselves from ourselves - FranƧois de La Rochefoucouldā€ ā€“ David Brooks (How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen)

Heard / Saw / Experienced

Heard:

Getting a (good) marketing job in Green Bay, WI, is difficult AF.

I've spoken with two individuals in the last week who want to break into the marketing space but can't figure out how. It's sad to hear this and be unable to help.

It's a combination of a lack of experience and companies devaluing marketers in this area. It's sad to see, and I believe a change is coming.

The marketer will be in the position of the future as the old cast exit stage is left, and businesses will still need to grow and connect with their audience.

All that to say, if you're still looking, keep your head up. Have faith that you will find the right position.

Saw:

I loved Willy Wonka as a kid. Who didn't?

I watched the new movie with my family last weekend, and it did not disappoint. The music, the actors, everything was terrific.

One thing stood out to me, though:

The power of having a dream and sacrificing to make it a reality.

What's your dream? How much are you willing to sacrifice to see it come true?

If you can't answer the first question, my friend Mark is running a free 21-day dream program to help you define your dreams on February 1st.

Experienced:

Can you have faith if everything falls into place?

I recently discovered some unpleasant news, which made me realize my lack of faith. When I can't control or fix something, I feel helpless. But in reality, that's when I must have faith that things will work out.

I trust that God is here and moving in my life. Whatever happens is in His plan.

Sadly, it is mainly through adverse events and feelings of want that I'm aware of my lack of faith. At least I can turn and have more faith.

When do you realize your lack or excess of faith?

Thank you for reading this weekā€™s letter; I hope you got something from it that will help you make progress.

Till next time,

ā€“ Jo (every second counts)
